Last call: last day for enrolment with certification for the event “#Ulysses100 Through Brazilian Eyes”

By Melina Pereira Savi

On June 22, 2022, the Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), will host the first in-person Núcleo de Estudos Irlandeses (NEI) event of the year: the inauguration of the #Ulysses100 mural, painted by Luiz Felipe Serigheli as a result of the cultural competition #Ulysses100 Through Brazilian eyes. The competition was carried out in 18 Brazilian universities — UFSC being one of them — and was launched by the Embassy of Ireland in Brazil and by the Consulate-General of Ireland in São Paulo to mark the 100 years since the publication of James Joyce’s Modernist masterpiece, Ulysses.

Throughout the day, scholars, artists, and students will convene at “Sala Drummond” and “Auditório Henrique Fontes” — both located in CCE-B — to discuss Joyce’s Ulysses, Serigheli’s mural, which was inspired in the chapter “Hades” of Joyce’s novel; and Alan Gilsenan’s ULYSSES|FILM. After an incredibly long season of social distancing and virtual events, we are excited with the prospect of meeting our peers in person and enjoying a wonderful coffee-break, a staple of academic events, one which we have all missed.

Come and join us in this culturally rich event!

We hope to see you soon!
