Title | Cultura em Ação | Meu nome, posso te falar o meu nome? – Uma produção radiofônica |
Description | Cultura em Ação: Presentation of cultural and artistic initiatives supported by SeCArtE – UFSC. This project involves the translation and staging of the play “My Name, Shall I Tell You My Name?” (1989), by Christina Reid (1942-2015), in the radio drama format, including a research process on radio drama in Brazil and worldwide, with a focus on English-language productions. To execute this project, a team linked to Professor Alinne Balduino Pires Fernandes will carry out research, study, rehearsal, production, recording, editing, and dissemination activities, with subsequent screenings for the academic community and the general public. The project will also include building a collection of information and documents discovered during the process. The two-actor play, permeated by analepses and soliloquies, addresses the loneliness of Andy, an elderly grandfather who served in World War I on behalf of the British crown, and the young Andrea, who leaves her grandfather in Derry in search of a more promising life in London. The play, which exposes political and racial prejudices in the United Kingdom in the late 1980s, can be a tool for critical reflection on contemporary Brazilian issues. This project is part of a larger research and extension program to promote Irish theatrical and poetic culture at the Center for Irish Studies, as well as a research project on contemporary Irish theater written by women, currently underway at the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature (DLLE), coordinated by Professor Alinne Balduíno Pires Fernandes. This project hopes to not only promote this play but also develop a genre that is rarely explored in the country: radio drama. |
