Call for papers – X Jornada do Núcleo de estudos Irlandeses

The X Conference of the Centre for Irish Studies at UFSC, themed Translations of Contemporary Ireland, explores the diversity, complexity, and cultural significance of translation involving Irish and English. Moving beyond the strictly linguistic dimension, the conference invites reflections on translation as a broader process of cultural mediation, interpretation, and transformation. It considers the dynamics of translating from Irish into English, from English into Irish, as well as from English and Irish into other modern languages, including Portuguese, while also examining how Irish literature, history, and culture are continually reinterpreted across linguistic, geographic, and disciplinary boundaries. By foregrounding translation in its many forms – linguistic, cultural, literary, and historical – the conference seeks to illuminate the ways Ireland is read, reimagined, and transmitted within a global network of languages and cultures.

Author’s name, title of the paper, abstract (150 to 200 words) and notes about the author (80 to 100 words), in Times New Roman 12, preferably in English, optionally in Portuguese, must be sent to ufsc.nei@gmail.com by May 31, 2026.

Proposals including other themes within Irish Studies will also be considered, at the discretion of the organising committee, according to the number of places available.

The event will be in person, and there will be no registration fee.

The call for the Lady Gregory Grant will be issued separately.
